My name is Geraldine O’Neill. I am a yoga teacher, corporate executive, wellness speaker,  fitness holiday leader, Zumba instructor and general health and fitness nut. I created Urban Yogi as a resource for anyone who loves health and fitness, especially yoga.

Mindfulness, safety and fun are the guiding tenents of my weekly classes in Dublin studios. I cater for every level and my portfolio of clients includes; athletes, dedicated yogis and yoga first timers.

My journey into yoga began when I realised my own flexibility was poor.  I loved yoga from the very first class. I liked that it allowed me to move fluidly, just like in dance, and yet has a strong strength dimension. I later realised it was more than a physical practice, but that came much later on, and now yoga helps me, not just physically, but at a very deep emotional level too.

I have 10 years experience teaching yoga in independent Dublin studios and leading retreats in Ireland and internationally, and prior to teaching a similar amount of time, training with amazing yoga teachers. Unlike what most would expect for a yogi, I continue to work in corporate life. This gives me huge insight into the average daily lives of my students, who come to my classes after a working day.

Self Care:

I train twice weekly at Dublin gym, BodyByrne Fitness. I walk to all of my classes around Dublin and I live for my weekly Zumba classes. I am dedicated to my own training and it’s my no 1 priority. During my busiest and toughest personal times, I have maintained a fitness programme, as I believe it’s the ultimate recipe for physical and mental health, together with a good diet, quality relationships and sleep. I practice restorative yoga and Yoga Nidra to replenish my nervous system and cannot extol the virtues of these practices enough.

Musings on Yoga:

Yoga is more than just a physical practice. It is a medicine, a way of life and a method for deepening self awareness. When I began doing Yoga it was a physical practice, a wonderful stretch class with a weird 5-minute sleeping session at the end. However, after just a few months of consistent practice, I was witnessing incredible benefits throughout all aspects of my  life. Yoga requires no equipment and can give you the independence to move your body in a healthy way, wherever you are. It is a wonderful complement to other forms of training and there is a yoga style for everyone.

Musings on Strength Training:

I train in a gym for strength, agility and stamina reasons… oh and have fun. I strongly believe that diverse training methods are wonderful for the body.
